Compost, simply put, is decayed organic matter. When added to garden soil, compost can provide nitrogen, carbon, and other nutrients required by plants for growth.

How do we compost at

 Williamsburg Community Growers?

At WCG, we use a windrow composting system

First, organic matter is formed into long, narrow rows called “windrows”.

Then, the windrows are heated to achieve sterilization.

Next, the windrows are periodically turned using a compact tractor.

Finally, the compost is ready to be added to our soil!
